"Sirius," James murmured into the dark dormitory. "Are you asleep?"

"I was until you rudely awoke me, Prongs." Sirius said groggily, propping his head up on his hand to look at his best friend. "What's the matter?"

"I think I..." James' voice broke off and Sirius sensed that something was wrong.

"Are you okay?" Sirius said, sitting up now and staring at James, who was lying on his pillow and looking up at the ceiling.

"Yes." James swallowed. "It's just...I think I want to marry her."

Sirius was silent, knowing exactly who James was talking about.

"I know I'm only seventeen. I know people will say that we're too young, but I love her, Sirius. I can't bear to be apart from her." James rambled.

"What do you think?" James asked anxiously, wanting his best friend's opinion.

Sirius didn't reply for a moment, then he said, serious for once, "I think it's a good idea, James. You two belong together. Everyone knows it."

James sighed in relief, and twisted the object that he was holding in his fingers. It was a silver engagement ring.
