Chapter 1-Top of the World
Today was the day that I had been dreading my entire life, the day my life would change for good,the choosing ceremony.
I had always felt remarkably out of place in my faction, Erudite. Frankly I'm not a very smart,school smart anyways, And Erudite is the "smart people" faction. I was looking forward to changing factions. I had gotten dauntless on my aptitude, which I guess would explain a lot. I only think I grabbed the knife because I needed something to protect my self with, you see... I'm a lesbian.. no I'm gay. There is this stupid kid at school,Bruce who always bullies me. He has a bimbo girlfriend named Ali, I have no idea why she stays with him. He cheats on her all the time hes a giant man whore, like mega slut. I would love to get away from Bruce he is the bane of my existence . But I can sort of see why hes such a dick, his parents are the worlds biggest stones,from amity no less.
But back to the present, I was at the back of the line in the hub, we where about to go up the stairs that lead to the platform where we choose our faction. I had never been so nervous. My name was Jack, Jack Sutherland. We started walking up the stairs and my heart rate increased tenfold. I had waited for this moment all my life, a chance to get a way from my family,a chance to get away from Bruce. A chance to start over.
I arrived at the top of the stairs to see Bruce walking off smiling, I needed to know what faction he got! I could not live my life with him around. I tapped the person in front of me's shoulder not realizing it was one of Bruce's cronies Derek.
"What did Bruce choose" I asked
He turned saying "shut up fag" and pushed me away. I stumbled but stayed on my feet.
"Douch Alert" I muttered under my breath
"What did you just say you little fucker? exhaled Derek
I pushed past him ignoring his comment and walked onto the platform. Marcus handed me a knife, I knew what I had to do. I walked over to the flaming bowl and slit my hand open and let the blood drip onto the flames. I was Dauntless.
I stood to the side with the other Dauntless Initiates and waited for the choosing ceremony to end. Derek went to Candor, let them deal with him. When the last person chose in line transferred from amity, to abnegation the Dauntless broke out running! I had nevefr felt so good, we hurtled down the stairs and out the door into the bright sunlight. My blue toms slapped the pavement as we ran. I heard the honking of a train and new what was coming. The train rounded the a bend in the track, I grabbed the door and swung in thats one good think about being gay. I'm in shape. I landed on my ass and crawled to the wall. Adrenaline was pumping through me.
I heard someone say "We'll look who it is"
"Fuck" I mutterd. I knew that voice, I turned my head and there he was.
Bruce.
