Dear James

I never thought I would be in this position. If anyone had said two years ago that I was Mrs Potter and was expecting our first child I would have thought they had had one too many firewhiskys. But here we are.

These are dangerous times. Voldemort is growing stronger every day. People are dying. My parents, your whole family...

But we must fight. For our child. For Harry. And, my dear, in the probable event of my death, I have left you this letter. It may or may not give you some comfort in hearing this, but I love you James Potter. You make me happy every time you walk in the room, every time you smile, even when you and Sirius come home at 3 o'clock in the morning, steaming drunk and wearing women's clothing. I know it sounds crazy (and I can just imagine the disbelieving face you will pull when you read this) but without you I'm nothing. I'm incomplete.

That is why, my love, I have decided to write you this letter. I sincerely hope you will never read this, but it is here just in case. If one day I don't come home from a mission for the order, then know this: I love you with all my heart. Explain to Harry that he is one of the most important people in the world to me, second only to you. Tell all our friends that I love them too.

We will fight, and we will win. Lord Voldemort will be defeated, and Harry will hopefully grow up in a world without fear.

Look after our son.

With all my love

Lily
