Realization
By: Aisaki Sumi
Summary: A confession, an unfinished reply, a white Christmas, and a late realization, and three words that never left her mouth. A Sakura x Syaoran drabble.
------------------------------------
"I love you."
These three simple words would mean the world to any girl on the receiving end. Yet she felt nothing but a heavy dread and uneasiness.
"I…" An incomplete sentence, followed by a hiatus; a reply filled with uncertainty.
She saw the hurt and pained look in those orbs of golden ambers. His head was then lowered, letting the chestnut bangs to cover his eyes.
He fell silent.
For moments, the taunting silence of the night deafened her. The air between them was too heavy with unforgiven pain and regrets to be intruded upon by the soft susurrus of the falling snow.
She wanted to reach out a hand to touch his cheeks, to provide him the tiny amount of warmth she could give before the coldness completely engulfed them.
But she couldn't move.
Her arm was temporarily paralyzed.
A chilly breeze whirled by quietly, rustling her auburn hair, stealing away the only faint warmth between them. The strands of feather-like chestnut locks swayed with the breeze as it passed by.
He turned away to leave, dashing away from her.
But she didn't stop him. She didn't grab his hand. She let the only love of her life slip through her flingers, like the fine smooth black satin.
A fast approaching light source blinded her beautiful emerald green eyes. She closed them, just for the briefest moment – for that split of a second.
The loud tire screeches disturbed the pleasant tranquility of the night, echoing through the dense air. She opened her eyes, and what came into view was the stunningly beautiful scenery, too unreal to be accepted as reality.
Elegant splashes of scarlet liquid mixed with the white snow, dying the vast expanse of whiteness red, creating such brilliant contrast.
Her eyes widened in shock as her heart skipped a beat.
The scarlet snow struck her to a realization, awoken her from her own doubts and hesitancy.
She had lover him too.
