For the ever-lovely Rachel, who gave me the hardest prompts ever, but is still really cool. I know this isn't the best, but it's all for you. Happy New Year.
The first time they fight is out of desperation.
They are allies. She has an arrow pointed at Finnick, and he declares that they are allies. She almost shoots him anyway, until she realizes that he is wearing Haymitch's bracelet.
"Right!" she says back to him, venom in her voice. We're allies.
Haymitch's voice chimes in her head. "You can't always get what you want, Sweetheart, even if you have an arrow pointed at someone's head."
The second time is because she loves someone else.
They are in a helicopter. It is the first time in months that she's been alone, and she realizes that she doesn't like it. She feels vulnerable.
She finds Finnick, and she sits down next to him. She has nothing to say, but words don't seem to be necessary.
Finnick kisses her forehead. Her body warms up. She doesn't feel so lonely anymore. No one kisses like Finnick can.
She pushes him away. "Don't!" she says forcefully. "You let Peeta get taken away. You don't get to kiss me."
The third time is for fun.
She can't stand filming another propo. She's no good at it.
She's on camera with Finnick, anyway, doing some stupid improv bits. They say that improv will get her to loosen up. She thinks that it's stupid, but her opinions don't stop her from laughing, especially with Finnick.
"Dear me," Finnick says in a ridiculous Capitol accent. "I seem to have gotten sand in my shoes."
"Oh my!" Katniss says back to him in an accent just as ridiculous. "That is awful. But, sir, we really should be getting back to the interview."
"Right," he says. "What is it you wanted to ask me?"
She titters the way she has heard Effie laugh, high and false. "Your clothes!" she exclaims. "Who decided on that awful grey?"
"I like this color," he says.
"I don't. It's awful," she tells him.
"Well…" he huffs, pretending to be mad at her.
"Oh no!" Katniss says, when she sees Haymitch coming. "It seems we have run out of time. We can get the answer to that and more, next time on The Katniss Everdeen Show!"
They stop with their accents, then, but the camera keeps rolling.
"We're doing The Finnick Odair Show next time," he tells her.
"No. The audience loves the Katniss Everdeen Show"
"We'll see about that…"
Their last fight is the only real one they ever had.
"Stop!" she yells at him. She throws something at him. She's not sure what it is, but she wants it to hurt. It doesn't come close to hitting him.
"Calm down," he says softly.
"No!" she screams. "You're insane. Just as insane as Annie." Making him hurt at Annie's expense is low, but she can't stop herself.
"Oh?" he asks, his voice rising now, too. "How do we know Annie's not the only sane one?"
"Because she likes you. No one in their right mind would ever like you!"
She storms off, slamming the door behind her.
The sound of the door slamming reverberates through the room, pulling her out of her memories. Finnick's not here now, but Katniss is just as mad. She won't fight with him anymore and she's not sure if that makes her more or less upset.
