Ok, this is set after Raven defeats Trigon, in season 5 of Angel. Raven is nineteen and Spike is like 130.

Tears of a Dark Bird

Red light burst out from the portal in the ground, signifying that Trigon was indeed gone, and Earth was safe from yet another threat. Spike surveyed the battlefield looking for any hint that Raven was still alive. His blue eyes raked across broken wood and torn up cement. Finally he saw her, pale and shivering against the charred dirt. He ran to her, kneeling next to her small frame and pulling her up so the upper half of her body was laying on his lap. She looked up at him with lost, violet eyes, searching for warmth and comfort. He could give her the comfort part.

"Spike?" she croaked, reaching her hand up to brush across his death pale cheek.

"Yeah, pet, it's me." He said, wiping a streak of blood off her cheek. "Your safe now. You stopped him, and he'll never come back." He felt her relax in his arms and smiled softly. Tears threatened to spill from Raven's eyes. Tears of relief as well as pain.

"I though I was dead." She whispered, closing her eyes against the sudden light of the streetlight coming back on.

"Yeah, well your not. Nice and alive, just how you should be." He said, fighting back tears of his own. To tired to stop them, tears slid down her cheeks, landing on his coat. Spike saw them and pulled her closer, almost into a sitting position. She clung to him and cried silently on his shoulder, soaking his shirt. He didn't care though, all that mattered was her right now. Fighting Trigon had taken a lot out of the half demon, leaving her a weak, shivering mass of tears.

"Hush, love. Everything's alright now." He whispered into her hair, kissing her head as he did so. She relaxed slightly and huddled closer to him, not looking for warmth so much as just someone to hold. Normally she was calm and stoic, but after a trip to hell there wasn't enough strength left in her to suppress her emotions. Spike held her tight to him, pulling her ripped cloak higher up on her body.

"Don't leave." She whispered, sounding very much like the child she had been just hours before.

"Not going anywhere, pet. I'll always be here for you." Apparently that was what she needed to hear because her tears slowed and her shivering slowed a bit.

"Tell me." She sighed. Spike closed his eyes, glad to finally be allowed to say what he had wanted to for a while.

"I love you, Raven." He said. Raven pulled back to look at him, something he didn't recognize shining in her suddenly bright eyes. She leaned forward and kissed him softly, using what strength she had left to mutter 'I love you, too.' Before she passed out. He was careful not to hurt her when he picked her up to carry her back to 'Wolfram and Hart' for some well needed rest for both of them.

Fin.
