Hello, back again with a new story. I'll be updating my other stories soon as well. I got a burst of inspiration though so I decided to throw this up. Hope you enjoy. Send me some love if you want to read more, all right?

Disclaimer: I don't own Detective Conan nor Magic Kaito. I just really enjoy them.

Luck's Run Out

Chapter One: Poison

"This is a fine mess you've gotten me into," says a pudgy faced, older man in a voice much too young. "What do you have to say for yourself?"

A boy, battered and bruises, cocks his head back to peer back at the man he's tied behind. Blood smeared across his face, there's no apparent wound. His blue eyes glare at what he can see of him.

"Excuse me for trying to catch a criminal." he replied dryly.

"Well you were a little overzealous today. I haven't even stolen anything yet," grumbled the thief. "And now you're going to get me killed. Hope you're happy, detective."

"Not really."

"What was that?"

"You heard me."

"No, that's not what I meant. Shh, someone's coming!" The disguised thief ordered in a strained whisper. "Act like you're out cold. You might get out of this alive."

Any protest the small bodied detective had were silenced in an instant. Footsteps, the very ones heard by Kid, grew louder, more audible until a black clad figure moved into sight. Kid stared in not-so-feigned terror while beneath the facade recognition flared: Snake.

"Ah, you're awake. I thought you might have died with that wound." The man laughs. "We'll have to take care of that, can't have any witnesses."

"What about the police?" The thief said in a voice not his own. "They're everywhere, looking for that thief. Not to mention the source of that gunshot earlier."

"Hmph. I have just the thing to get rid of you and the little boy without a gun." His hands plunge into his pocket; there he drew from his pocket a small box and a vial. "It's a little gift from the main branch of the organization, a special poison."

Kid could almost hear the sharp intake of breath from the boy behind him. So soft it is that it's missed by Snake. It was his plan to try to get Conan out of this mess relatively unscathed, though he had little idea how now that they were tied together and being sentenced to death by poison. Rival though he was his dear detective didn't need to be pulled into his mess. The number one rule he abided by was that no one got hurt on his heists. For that reason alone, he shielded the boy with his body, taking the shot meant for him.

"Don't you think they'll wonder about the gunshot? This plan of yours isn't very well thought out."

"Shut up!"

The man seized the thief by his hair. Fortunately, and unfortunately, only his face was covered in the mask. His natural hair was left exposed and styled. It meant his identity wouldn't be revealed just yet. The pain, however, brought tears to his eyes and his mouth instinctually opened to release a sound of pain. A pill, plucked from the case, was forced down his throat with water from the vial to wash it down.

"Now the boy," sneered Snake until he hears voices nearby, too close for his liking. He shot a glance towards the sound. He gave a frustrated growl. "It's that boy's lucky day."

He abandoned his prisoners just as a blonde teen and a swarm of police stormed in to find the pair tied up. They were on them in seconds, working to untie them. Smoke rose up, pink fluffy clouds of it, the moment Kid was free. He was gone before the police knew what happened.
