Dancing with Cinderella

She spins and she sways to whatever song plays

Without a care in the world

And I'm sitting here wearing the weight of the world on my shoulders

When Grace was three, she took ballet. Since that day, she has danced and danced ever since. And to Danny, there has never been a better sight. She has always been his prima ballerina monkey. And she always will be.

It's been a long day and there's still work to do

She's pulling at me saying "Dad I need you!

There's a ball at the castle and I've been invited

and I need to practice my dancin'

Oh please, Daddy, please!"

When Grace was six, she wanted to be a princess. Cinderella to be specific. And to her father, she was. She could convince him to do anything. She was daddy's little princess. So when she told him there was ball and she needed to practice her dancing, he couldn't refuse. No matter how long of a day it was at work, when it came to Grace, Danny would do anything. Even dance.

She says he's a nice guy and I'd be impressed

She wants to know if I approve of the dress

She says, "Dad, the prom is just one week away

And I need to practice my dancin'

Oh please, Daddy, please!"

When Grace was eighteen, she went to senior prom. Catherine and Kono had taken Grace shopping for her prom dress as the poor girl did not want Danny, Chin, or Steve to go. She looked absolutely stunning in her royal blue, strapless dress. It was elegant, yet modest. Perfect for Danno's little monkey. A week before prom and Grace looked sheepishly at her father. He chuckled as she asked to dance with him again. She didn't have to ask twice. Danny would always dance with his monkey.

But she came home today with a ring on her hand

Just glowing and telling us all they had planned

She says, "Dad, the wedding's still six months away but I need to practice my dancin'

Oh please, Daddy, please!"

Steve looked at the young woman in front of him. He couldn't believe that little Gracie Williams was getting married. He knew how much it hurt her that Danny wouldn't be there to dance with her. He blamed at himself for not stepping in front of that bullet, for not saving his best friend and his brother. She called the other day to let him and Cath know she was in town. The three met for dinner and Grace asked Steve to give her away at her wedding. His chest tightened as he said yes. Grace's eyes teared up as her and Danno's song came on the radio. Steve took her hand and the uncle and niece danced around for hours. He was so proud of Grace, and he knew her dad was up in Heaven, smiling down on the two, probably still wearing a button down and a tie.
