Chapter 01: Discovery

Upon first glance, she assumed it was dead. Likely hit by a motor vehicle at some time during the night. It was just lying on the sidewalk just outside the clinic...

But then, much to her surprise, a dainty, leathery wing twitched in the early morning light.

A small gap escaped her lips. She was astonished such a small creature could survive that brutal an ordeal. It may have been considered cruel of her, but she was absolutely ecstatic that it was alive. There was a chance she could save it!

Being the kind hearted young woman with every fiber of her being that she was, Kurosaki Yuzu unwound the slip of silky fabric she had so elegantly placed around her neck earlier. She then approached the small mammal; some species of bat, she presumed. It twitched again, wings outspread in a spasm that made her heart ache for the poor creature. She hoped it wasn't going into shock.

Yuzu wasn't sure if it would bite, like many injured animals tend to do, so she laid the scarf over its form before slipping both hands beneath the now silk clad bat. She gently lifted it, taking care not to squeeze the now calm creature.

It was cute... Undeniably so, and it didn't appear to have any injuries. But one could never be sure until an X-ray was performed. Broken bones, internal bleeding and other horrific traumas were entirely possible, unfortunately.

But regardless, she would have to ask her beloved father to examine him, and soon! He had to know at least a little bit about animals to be as fantastic a doctor as he was, or at least she dearly hoped... In the few short moments since she lifted the creature

Yuzu carefully stroked the little creature's plush fur before wiping away the small tears that had accumulated in the corners of her honey hued eyes. She then turned on her heel, rushing back into her family's clinic, carefully so not to jar her new little friend in its potentially critical state. She called for her father.

At that moment, she decided, this tiny little animal would be her new friend, and she would be damned if she couldn't save him.
