A/N: This is a Sessh/Kag and Inuyasha is left out. The poor guy. :'(

((This came to me when I was listening to the song Chasing Cars. Quote: if I just lay here; was my inspiration))

Disclaimer: I don't own Inuyasha, or any of the characters, etc.

Kagome Chooses Another

Kagome's hand grasped his and a warm smile lit her face. The usually unemotional face of the ice prince smiled back at her, and a certain individual's heart went plummeting.

Inuyasha knew, he knew that he was no good for her, but he wanted her anyway. He wanted to fill this desire in his heart.

The aching, he wanted so badly for it to stop. He wanted to clear his head of all the selfishness, and only have room left for her, and her alone.

Kikyo was no more, and at that, he was sad. But he was angry at himself for feeling sad. The hanyou shook his head, knowing that he would never properly understand his place in the world. The only thing he knew of himself, was that he was null and void. The part that was always there, but never one that properly fitted into the equation.

He was neither human nor demon; therefore, there was no place for him. Kagome had accepted him for a while, but now he saw her true feelings. She wanted someone who was pure of essence. She was a miko and he was a demon; neither a half.

It was an odd pairing, but in a way, it made sense. This conclusion was what made Inuyasha's depressive mood sink further, as he realised that Kagome was not the right one for him after all.

Inuyasha had thought that she was the right one for him, when she had saved his life, letting him be freed from Kikyo's grasp, and the depths of hell into which Kikyo had intended to take him. Kikyo, as a result, had sunk on her own, leaving Inuyasha and Kagome behind, in each others arms.

Inuyasha had believed that Kagome had loved him, but now he could see that it was the other way around, and he had been blinded by his feelings. Kagome had not wanted his life to go to waste. After all, why waste the existence of a person she held so dearly as a friend. Only a friend.

Inuyasha's heart gave an inaudible flutter, and sank into the depths of his soul. Never again, would he be able to love like he had, for the two he had loved dearly, were both taken away. Kikyo by death, and Kagome by the ice prince himself.

Inuyasha wondered to himself if he would just be able to lie in the cold grass where he was, staying in the shadows and eventually dying out of sheer will to do so. Now that Kagome was gone, all desire to live and become powerful had disappeared, along with the aspiration to protect her.

He was just an empty shell. An empty Inuyasha shell, wearing clothes of red. The clothes of the Fire Rat, stained red in colour, signified his bleeding heart, and never would he let himself forget that.

The destroyed hanyou stood shakily, tears streaming down his face at his loss, and ran. Inuyasha fled into the depths of the forest and beyond. He would keep running, in hope that these memories would never catch up to him. And if they did, then he would surely have to die.

A/N: Well hell, wasn't that depressing??? I was almost in tears as I wrote this! Poor Inuyasha, he's one of my faves too!!! Actually, I love basically all the Inuyasha characters. They're awesome! So, please if you've read this, then could you please review?? Even if you are anonymous, you can still review, thankyou!!
