Okay, so this is my first fic on this site. I looove ShiIta, so when I was listening to 'The Bird and the Worm' by Owl City, it kinda inspired this. (I also listened to Fuzzy Blue Lights, The Real World and Tip of the Iceberg, in that order. I recommend listening to them. )

Please enjoy~!

It was always summer with Shisui.
No matter if it was the depths of winter with a snowstorm raging outside. Shisui always managed to bring the bright glow of summer with him wherever he went.
For someone like Itachi, who was the antithesis of his cousin, this seemed impossible.
But somehow Shisui managed it.

Sitting at his open window five years later, looking out into the night at the blue orbs of streetlight spread out beneath him in rows seemingly for eternity, it occurred to him that Shisui's absence still hurt, a dull throb in his heart that lingered long after his cousin had vanished beneath the ground.
He felt as if he were slipping beneath a snowbank inside his head. Without Shisui, the winterboy could not escape. The summerboy had kept Itachi's snow at bay for as long as he lived, but now that he was gone...

My summerboy

Another memory surfaced in his mind.

The two boys ran through a seemingly endless field, Itachi pulled along by a joyous, elated Shisui. Red and gold leaves flew in their wake, buoyed by a crisp autumn breeze.

Itachi's mind painted the memory in beautiful shades of color.

Shisui's favorite color had been Venetian blue.
Itachi hadn't understood until he'd heard the songs.

Itachi watched as the lights in front of him blurred, wrinkled, blurred as his tears fell.
His iPod was full of Shisui's favorite songs.
The boy had loved Owl City. Indeed, the carefree mood of the songs fitted the worry-free summerboy so well.
His iPod was full of Shisui's favorite songs.
He never listened to them.
He kept them in a playlist entitled, "Summerboy's Requiem" and never touched them.
He knew that if he did, he'd never stop crying.

Shisui's face swam into his vision, a huge grin adorning the boy's features.
"Koibito...," Itachi whispered. "I miss you..."

He knew that it was all his imagination, but he could have sworn that he heard Shisui whisper, "Hey, winterboy."

Itachi opened his mouth to reply just as a strong breeze tore through the open window and snatched the words from his mouth and, Itachi was sure, carried them all the way up to heaven.

"I love you."
