Flora
Most girls screamed. Squealed. Shrieked. "Eww! Gross!" Quietly backed away. Or slowly slipped off a shoe and advanced. Not her, never. "Come on, it's just a ladybug! They're good for plants 'cause they eat aphids." Back then, a few years ago at the academy. She was the only girl I knew who wasn't afraid of bugs. Today, it is still so.
Most guys scoffed. Snickered. Said, "Ha! Girly girl!" Walked by without a glance. Or ripped off leaves and petals in boredom. He never did that, not once. "Hmm…" he didn't say much else, just "hmm…" and leaned close to examine it through mysterious eyes. "Oh, butterfly bush." He always knew. When we were young, not even genin, back then. He was the only boy I knew who listened to the flowers. Now he still knows.
I walk into her flower shop for the first time. By some twist of fate, she's manning the counter today.
I look up from my nails at the sound of the bell. I've never seen him here before.
"I have an order to pick up. It will be under 'Aburame'. 'Aburame Shibi' if there's a first name."
"'Kay, hang on a second."
While she's in the back room, I look at the arrangements for sale and clean my glasses.
I see his order but I go to the wayback first, to the extras pile.
She comes back out so quietly; I don't have time to put my glasses on before she sees me. This makes her blush as she slides my order across the counter. She also puts a rose.
