A Day in the Life of the seaQuest – Vocorder Problems

Disclaimer:

I don't have any rights to the TV show "seaQuest DSV," and I am not making any money with this story. This story takes place during the first season.

This is a translation of my German story "Alltag auf der seaQuest – Vocorder Problems." I wrote a bunch of stories under the heading of "Alltag auf der seaQuest" ("A Day in the Life of the seaQuest"). Actually, they went in alphabetical order (A, B, C, etc.). I wrote a story with a title starting with the letter A, one with the letter B, one with the letter C, one with the letter D… I think you get the picture. I'll try to translate a few stories, but not all.

Lucas was sitting, Vocorder in front of him, with a frown on his face and creases on his forehead. He had come to the Moon Pool 15 minutes ago to talk with Darwin, but it had been impossible because the Vocorder wasn't working.

As a result, he had given Darwin the signal to swim to the bridge so he could test the Vocorder unit that was installed there. However, that one was working perfectly fine, just like the one in his cabin. He could not for the life of him figure out what was wrong with the unit set up at the Moon Pool, why it wouldn't utter a word!

The battery couldn't be at fault, after all, he had just put two new ones in it a few days ago. The teenager turned the Vocorder over and unscrewed the plate on the back. At first glance, he couldn't spot any defects...

Half an hour later, he was almost sure that the problem wasn't with the Vocorder itself - all of the components were in perfect working order.

Lucas sighed; that meant the problem was probably in the sensors in the Moon Pool. The teen put on a wetsuit and diving goggles and slid into the water. Checking the sensors wasn't as easy at it sounded. Darwin got in his way quite often because he wanted to play with his human friend.

When the blond boy was finally finished checking the sensors in the pool, he wasn't much happier. The sensors were all in a good shape, so now he still didn't know why the Vocorder wasn't working!

Thoughtfully, Lucas sat down on the edge on the Moon Pool and towel-dried his hair.

Suddenly, the teenager had an idea. He gripped the Vocorder, opened the battery compartment, and found the explanation for why nothing was working. The batteries has been switched.

Lucas rolled his eyes and took a deep, deep breath. "BEN!"

THE END
