Today was going to be an ordinary day, but it's impossible for a day to be ordinary when a blue box appears out of the sky and a strange man stumbles out of the box with smoke pouring out behind him.
That's right, my day that was going to be totally ordinary became totally extraordinary because it became the day that I met the Doctor.
I almost cracked up laughing as he stood there looking this way and that, trying to figure out where he was.
"Sir, can I help you?"
He looked at me, registering my neutral expression and the fact that I didn't seem to be bothered that he had come from nowhere.
"Um, where am I?"
At this moment, I burst into a fit of laughter, but somehow I managed to choke out the words;
"You're on Earth sir. England to be precise."
He nodded, and smiled.
"Thank you. Now, would you like to come into my time machine?"
I stared at him, having stopped laughing. Okay, so perhaps I was slightly confused as to where he had come from.
"Time machine?"
He nodded.
"Come inside!"
He pushed open the door and motioned for me to enter. I stepped inside and fell over as I missed a small step, ending up lying on the floor.
"It's, I mean-"
He smiled and helped me up.
"Bigger on the inside than on the outside?"
"Yes. Um, what was all the smoke about?"
He smiled.
"I was just testing out some special effects, and then I realised I was about to crash – into you."
I laughed.
"Right. Um, who are you?"
He smiled. "I'm the Doctor. And you are?"
I held my hand out for him to shake.
"I'm Beatrice – though everyone calls me Bea."
The Doctor shakes my hand.
"Nice to meet you Bea."
"So Bea, seeing how I nearly crashed into you, as an apology, I suppose I should make you an offer."
"An offer of what exactly?"
"Have you ever wanted to see the start of the Roman Empire or the fall of the Berlin wall? Or maybe meet Queen Victoria?"
"Um, yes. But really, what is your offer?"
"Would you like to travel with me? I mean, how about it?"
"I'd love to!"
"So then. All of time and space to explore, where shall we begin?"
