Before Annie, they were together. Jai secretly resents her for showing up in Sri Lanka that first time. Their relationship – or lack thereof since they were just having sex – ended abruptly there. And then Ben went rogue. Jai worried about him just as much as Annie wanted to find him.
Jai panicked when Ben got shot in Sri Lanka. He paced back and forth in the hospital, hoping that the man he loved would survive. And it turned out that it tipped Annie off. "So, how long have you been in love with him?" she questioned.
Jai gawked at her, shocked that Annie had figured it out. "We were together – as in having sex – for a few years before Sri Lanka. And then it ended. And I realized I was in love with him after that." He didn't have to explain why it happened. Annie figured it out pretty fast.
"If he survives, tell him." Annie and Ben had been given a second chance in Sri Lanka this time around, and they weren't good for each other.
"Thanks. I will." Jai couldn't even believe he was having this conversation. He stopped to glare at a smirking Auggie.
"I've known for awhile. Just glad you finally admitted it," Auggie explained. He couldn't believe Jai had said something.
When the doctor came out and informed them that Ben would survive his injuries, Jai felt the most relieved. He started to panic about confessing his feelings.
Joan rolled her eyes at the agent. "It's not that hard. Tell him you love him." She gave him a tight, encouraging smile.
"Fine." Jai was the first one allowed into Ben's room and he stared at him. He looked pale, probably because of the blood loss.
"What are you doing just standing there? Come over and kiss me, moron," murmured the exhausted Ben.
Jai held back a laugh. "Okay," he agreed. He leaned over and kissed the hurt man. He made sure not to get tangled up in all the cords that Ben was attached to.
"I'm glad you're here, Jai." Ben let out a yawn, but refused to close his eyes. He wanted to hear what Jai was going to say.
He took a deep breath and prepared to tell Ben. "I'm in love with you. Have been for awhile. It started out as sex, I know, but it become a lot more. By the way, still angry at you for disappearing. Don't ever do that again."
"I'm not planning on disappearing again. I love you, too, moron." Ben loved Annie, he truly did, but not the way he loved Jai.
It had taken a long time for Ben and Jai to admit their feelings, but they didn't regret the time.
All that mattered was that they finally had. Now they could be happy.
