"So…you're the Lorax?"

The orange creature glanced up at the gangly teenager. "I am," he confirmed, straightening and brushing the dirt from his fur. "What's it to you?"

The girl shrugged, though her gaze lingered over the patch of dirt he'd been hunched over. "Nothing really," she admitted, but a spark of curiosity remained in her green eyes. "I just don't think we've ever met face to face."

It was the Lorax's turn to shrug. "I guess." Looking back up at Audrey, he lifted a bushy eyebrow. "Now what do you really want, kid?"

She blinked, but a small smile spread across her delicate features, and she cocked her head to the side, undeterred by his crass. "I wanted to know what you were doing," she finally said.

The Lorax peered up at the teen in blatant suspicion, a small part of him suspecting that someone (probably the Once-ler) was playing a joke on him, but in the inquisitiveness in the girl's expression bellied his assumption. "Alright," he sighed, giving in. He motioned for her to come closer, and Audrey gladly complied, kneeling in the dirt beside him with an childishly elated expression.

He carefully bent down, and brushed away some of the soil over what he had been hiding. And there, proudly coming out of the earth, was a Truffula sprout.

Audrey gasped, a slim hand flying over her mouth. "But…but the only seed is in the middle of town…" she murmured, but the Lorax waited until realization struck her. "The pollen's spreading…and creating new seedlings," the teen finally breathed.

The Lorax nodded. "Yep. In a few weeks there'll be hundreds of these babies all over the valley."

"And then there'll be hundreds of trees, like there were before," Audrey smiled. The Lorax glanced back up at her in surprise.

"Why do you care so much about trees, anyway?" he questioned abruptly. The teenager blinked at him again.

"Why shouldn't I? They give us oxygen, they give us beauty…" she affectionately brushed her fingers along the sprout's meager leaves. "What's not to like about Mother Nature's gifts?"

The Lorax blinked, a mirror image of Audrey's expression moments before. His gaze flickered from the girl to the seedling, before the smallest of smiles spread across his face. "I guess I couldn't have put it better myself."
