It had been a month or so since the two of them took off together, trying to right their wrongs. It had been long, hard and exhausting on the both of them. Sneaking around, gathering information, getting into fire-fights and other life-threatening situations. Only to be lead to dead-end after dead end. Failure after failure. In general terms, that first month...well, it sucked. Well, most of it sucked anyway.
There were those time, which were all the time, that Church and Carolina spent getting to know each other. Not the stuff you write memoirs with, the two of them had stuff down to a 'T'. No, the little; habits, likes and dis-likes, favorite colors. Bet you didn't know that Carolina hated her armor color, did ya?
So, it came as no surprise to Church as he booted up with a small yawn, his image flickering to life above Carolina's armor, to see her still snoozing. She was curled up into a tight ball, hair splayed out everywhere, and the thin, military issued blankets were wrapped around her body almost constrictingly. He wasn't sure if she just slept like that, or if it was because of the freezing cold, courtesy of them looking for a top secret military facility in the middle of a frozen wasteland.
He watched her sleeping form for a while longer, his thoughts elsewhere. After a few moments however, he seemed to collect himself, and sighed. He knew that he would have to wake her up eventually, and began to walk towards her, his projection fading slightly due to the strained connection as he got closer.
"Carolina..." Church whispered, to no effect. "Carolina..." He tried again, which earned him a quiet muttering from his companion. "God-dammit bitch, get up!" It was the closest thing to a quiet shout that he could manage.
Th response was immediate, sudden, and as far as their daily routine of witty banter was concerned, unexpected.
"...Church?" Carolina mumbled tiredly, looking around the ice cave that they had bunked down in for the night, and noticing how the world outside the entrance of the cave, as well as the cave itself, was pitch-black, the only light being the faint glow given off by Church's form.
"Er..." Church's mind was starting to make connections.
"Go back to sleep asshole."
"Right..."
"..."
"..."
"..."
"..."
"...Bitch"
It was the nights like these that made the long, hard, exhausting, months bareable.
