Today's the day
She sat in front of the mirror, her hair and makeup done to perfection.
Today was the day.
The day she had secretly been dreaming of ever since she was a little girl.
However she would deny that if ever asked.
She sat in her dress, and stared at her refection as tears began to pool in her eyes.
She drew in a shaky breath as she felt butterfly's flutter about in her belly.
She nervously clasped her hands together, resting them in her lap.
"Today was the day", she whispered softly, a small smile tugging at her lips
She closed her eyes tightly, as the tears threatened to fall.
She suddenly felt a strong hand graze over her shoulder and instantly knew it was him.
Her smile broadened.
She felt safe, secure and comforted by his touch.
"Today's the day." She breathed softly and opened her eyes.
His eyes locked with hers and he smiled.
"It is." he replied gently, as he continued to stroke his fingers across her bare shoulders.
"Everything all right darling?" he asked tenderly.
"Perfect" she replied as she turned and faced him.
Looking into his eyes she saw her best friend.
Her lover.
Her partner.
Her life.
Her love.
A watery smile lit up her face as she leant forward and placed a gentle kiss to his lips.
Resting her forehead against his, she closed her eyes and savoured the moment.
"Today's the day."
