He was glad that his patrol was almost finished as he sees Sam's wooden cabin through the tree line. He stopped and looked back into the dense forest behind Sam's cabin looking for his missing patrol partner.
"Jake, it's almost 7 p.m. We need to head off to Sam's house for the pack meeting." Embry's voice floated through the wolf's mind link.
"Okey you head on first, Embry. Let us just finish our race.." Jacob's distant voice replied.
Embry sighs and mutters to himself "When will he ever accept it?"
He calms himself to phase back but right before he could do, his best friend shouts. "Come on, Leah! Let's race to Sam's house.."
He pulled on his shorts and looks back once more to the dense forest and whispers to himself "Is he really that broken?"
The front door slams open to a Jacob's eerily smiling form, silencing all the conversations in the living room.
"Good your finally here! Let's start then.." Sam said, breaking the silence that falls upon them.
"Wait!" Jacob shouted. "Leah isn't here yet"
"Jacob" Sam started but was cut off by the younger wolf.
"No! We can't start the meeting just yet. She will be here soon.." looking anxiously to the open front door.
Everyone looked perplexed however Emily couldn't help but start crying. Sam stands up and kisses each teary eye of his wife and then looks back to Jacob, while still hugging the crying form of Emily. "Jacob, Leah isn't coming.." he started slowly.
"Yes she is" he shouted frantically looking to Sam and back to the front door.
"She'll be here any minute now" he whispered softly. His eyes never leaving the open door.
"No Jacob! Leah isn't coming through that door" you can hear the pain in his voice.
Strengthen his hold on his distressed imprint, finding solace that she is near. "She's D-dead. Jacob, she died two years ago.." holding back a choked sob. "You can't keep on doing this, Jacob. You got to realize that she isn't coming back, so that we can all move on" a deafening silence falls upon the room.
Jacob's chair scraped the wooden floor as he hastily stood up. Eyes glazed over he stood up and started heading out.
"Jacob where are you going?" Embry quickly said, finally finding his voice.
"I'll be leaving now.. I've got patrol with Leah in a few minutes. I don't want to be late or she will chew me and spit me out" a distant and broken laugh bounced through the small living room. He then headed to the back door and sprinted to the forest, phasing mid-run shredding his clothes all over Sam's back yard.
After Jacob's hasty exit, the cabin was drowned in a heavy atmosphere making each shape shifter squirm in there seat but no one uttered a single word. No one exactly knew how to handle the current situation of Jacob's state of mind.
Finally able to stop the sobs coming out of her mouth she looked up to her husband and whispered "It's been two years now, Sam. What can we do to help him understand?" finally breaking the silence that fell upon the room.
"There's nothing we can do. He is in it too deep.." his voice muffled by Emily's hair but everyone could hear him loud and clear. The next few words that passed his lips verbalized what they all knew.
"His broken beyond repair.."
