"Brave"
(Hetalia Style!)
England sat hunched over the paperwork on his desk. He was muttering quietly under his breath and he looked very stressed. The sound of the door opening came from behind him and following it came France's voice.
"You're muttering."
"I don't mumble, frog," England grumbled.
"Oui, you mutter, Angleterre," said France. "When something's troubling you. America still won't agree to the new taxes?"
"Stubbornness," said England. "He's inherited that trait from me." He sighed, putting his head in his hands. "I don't know what to do."
"Speak to him," said France.
"I do speak to him!" said England exasperated. "He just doesn't listen!"
"Come now," said France. "Pretend I'm America. Speak to me. What would you say?"
England hesitated. "I can't do this."
"Sure you can." When England gave him a hard look, France said, "There! Right there! That's the grumpy Englishman I know! All right, here we go." He took a deep breath, and in the best American accent he could mimic (that wasn't very good) he said, "I don't want you guys putting new taxes on my stuff! I wanna be my own country, where people can have all the food they want and do anything they want!"
England stifled a laugh at how accurate the imitation was, but regained his posture. "America, all this work, all the time spent preparing you, raising you, giving you everything I never had-I ask you, what do you expect me to do?"
"Call the taxes off!"
America was pacing around his room, pretending to talk to England. "Would that hurt anything? You're the 'great' United Kingdom. You could just tell your people, 'America is not ready for this set of new rules. In fact, he might not ever be ready. So that's it! See you later! We'll expect your list of arguments and complaints in the morning."
"I understand this must all seem unfair to you," said England. "But we can't just run away from who we are."
"I don't want my life to be over!" said America. "I want my freedom!"
"But are you willing to pay the price your freedom will cost?"
"I'm not doing any of this to hurt you."
"If you could just try to see that what I do, I do because I care about you."
"But it's my life. It's…" America sighed. "I'm just not ready."
"I think you would see," said England. "If you would just-"
"I think I can make you understand," said America. "If you would just-"
"Listen."
"Listen!
America looked around at the emptiness of his room. This isn't gonna happen, he thought. Not if he had any say in it.
