10 Characters, 10 Prompts Challenge. Prompts: Melania MacMillan, absurd
Concern
"This is absurd!"
"Madam Black, please, lower your voice."
"I will do no such thing until you promise me that my children are safe."
The old Headmaster sighed, leaning back in his chair. Melania Black took that as a bad sign.
"It was just one incident," Dippet assured her.
"A girl is dead! For Merlin's sake – do you even know what killed her?"
"Our healers are running tests. I have my Professor of Defense scouring the bathroom for evidence." He cleared his throat. "Ministry officials will be arriving to continue the investigation in the morning."
"None of these things is a guarantee that my children will be all right if I decide not to pull them from the school."
"That-that's really not necessary. We … have an idea … a very good theory, of who is responsible for the girl's murder. He'll be taken into custody when the aurors arrive."
"It's a professor?"
"No, Ma'am, a student."
"I want to know his name."
Dippet cringed, but relented. "Rubeus Hagrid. He's a fourth-year, Gryffindor."
Melania gasped. "My Orion's talked about him – they're in the same year. He's the giant."
"Yes, Ma'am."
"And you allowed this monster to attend school with my children?"
"Please, Ma'am. He'll be gone in the morning. All will be well."
She sighed, staring up at the portrait of her husband's grandfather. Arcturus would have her head if she pulled the children from the school.
"I assure you, Headmaster, I will be keeping a very close eye on what's going on here. If I find out that my children's lives have been threatened again, I'll find someone more suitable to run this school."
With a sweep of her cloak, the witch turned and left the office.
