It was just another average night at Beacon. All the students were sleeping soundly in their dorms, resting after a long week of classes. The only sounds that could possibly be heard were the soft snores coming from the assorted rooms. In the Team RWBY dorm room, all but one of the Huntresses was resting peacefully.
Blake was tossing and turning in her sleep, her feline ears twitching in distress. Ever since she and Sun had infiltrated the White Fang, she had been plagued with terrible nightmares that had prevented her from sleeping, terrible nightmares filled with death and suffering at the hands of the White Fang. She had never let on that she was having these violent nightmares, although her teammates knew that something was wrong. She hadn't even told Yang, her trusted partner and the closest friend she had ever had. In the current nightmare, she was watching the White Fang beat Yang down and she could see Torchwick walking towards her, prepared to deliver the killing blow. She whimpered and whined in her sleep, quietly enough that neither Weiss nor Ruby heard it but loud enough to wake the blonde brawler in the top bunk.
Yang, roused from her slumber by the whimpers of her Faunus partner, peered down and saw the raven-haired Huntress writhing in her sleep. She gently climbed down and nudged her gently. "Blake…" she whispered. "Blake wake up…" Blake gasped slightly as Yang woke her up just before she saw Torchwick finish the job in her dream. She breathed heavily and looked around, before relaxing slightly when she saw that she was just in her bed. "Are you okay, Blake?" Yang asked, gently placing her hand atop Blake's. Blake nodded shakily.
"Yeah… I'm fine. Just a bad dream," she replied, trying to mask her fear. Blake lifted her golden eyes to meet the lilac eyes of her partner, who sat beside her.
"Need to talk about it?" Yang asked. Yang was more worried about Blake than their teammates were, although she never let her cocky façade drop too much to let on that she did. Blake shook her head shakily. "Well, if you do need anything, please get me, okay?" Yang stood slowly to get back on her bunk before Blake took her hand.
"Actually, Yang… I know it's stupid and childish, but can I sleep in your bed tonight?" Blake hated that the words had actually come out of her mouth, but after the visions that she had seen she just needed to feel her friend beside her to know that she was okay. Yang grinned and lifted the Faunus into her strong arms and placed her on the top bunk.
"Sure thing, kitten." Yang winked at Blake, reassuring her that everything was going to be okay. Yang reclined on the bed and allowed Blake to snuggle up against her. Blake sighed heavily, basking in the warmth emanating from Yang's body. As Blake made herself comfortable, Yang reached a hand up and gently scratched her behind one of her cat ears. As much as she hated when Yang did that sometimes, it felt incredibly comforting given the circumstances. Blake even subconsciously started to purr as Yang softly scratched her behind the ear. In Yang's arms, she felt safe and protected. She felt like no one could ever harm her, not the White Fang or Torchwick or anyone else. Soon enough, the two drifted off to sleep in one another's arms.
And for the first time in a long time, Blake didn't have any nightmares.
