Shattered

A/N: In light of the new episode, I decided to work on more of my fics. So I came up with this. It is Zutara... but a little... dark. Rated T for safety. Oneshot!

The young girl swallowed the gigantic lump in her throat and released a breath she was perfectly aware she was holding. Her eyes softened and you could see her expression go from determination to confusion.

The boy her eyes were analyzing was unable to break through the earthbender had forced against his ankles and feet and hands.

The shouts of a older boy in distress had pulled the earthbender away, so she couldn't complete the force of crushing him between two slabs of earth. All she had done was restrain him. And left her comrade.

Why didn't she just follow the earthbending girl?

Because he could be freed by his comrades and the earthbender would make it to her brother first because she could bend herself to him faster than her, the waterbender, could run.

She had never taken a life. And she wasn't sure if she wanted to. The indecisiveness was unbearable. And for once, her mind went to something completely random.

Aunt Wu's prediction.

A powerful bender? Of course many times she thought if it could be Aang. Now...she thought of someone different. Could it have been him under different circumstances? Perhaps the earthbending boy she had met? But her thoughts only lingered on the boy in front of her. His face, his hair, his eyes.

Eyes. Eyes were the window to a soul. She stepped closer, summoning a sharp, cold icicle in her hands from her bending water.

There was no evil in the eyes, she could see. Only confusion. And misery. So many emotions... heartless ones. Placed there from some bastard who deserved the pain that had been placed on his shoulders.

"What are you doing?" He asked, looking away from her eyes in shame.

"Trying to see what good is left in you." She whispered.

She switched hands the pointed beam of ice was in and thought for one more minute. She felt waves on confusion sweep in.

And thought finally of their moment in the cave weeks ago. Her hand, upon his scar, and he, responding to her touch with closed eyes. But he betrayed his uncle and her thoughts. He was not a person of many morales in that sense. He had assisted that bitch of a sister. He had increased her confidence. And furthermore, Aang almost died because of him. No. He deserved this, she was sure.

Her hand came back quickly and she brought back the ice beam and ripped it against his pale neck quickly, splattering blood across her own icicle and hands, as well as his neck. Her thin fingers dropped the icicle and ran for the entryway the earthbending girl had made, just before feeling a sharp pain of electricity in her back, and her breath leaving her.

Sheesh...I almost cried writing this thing. XD So...if you please, read and review. I'd much 'preciate it.
