Kai always hated snow.

It was too cold and it would bite you with winds and kill crops. He preferred fire, like any blacksmith would. Fire was warm and bright and inviting, full of life. It was also burning and unpredictable. He was just like his element, like the others were. He'd always run into battle, without any plans or thought, and had a fiery temper.

So, you would've thought that he would hate Zane.

Sure, the guy was a bit cold at times, but Zane was just as warm as fire when it came to family, so Kai had no reason to dislike the guy, except for the fact that he had no concept of emotion sometimes. When Zane acted especially weird, he blamed it on the fact that Zane was an orphan, and was never taught proper etiquette. You couldn't blame Zane for that

Then, he'd found out Zane was a robot.

Scratch that, nindroid. That was what Jay had said, anyway. At first, he was a little put off by the statement, but then he saw how Zane looked. Zane looked shattered, like someone had taken ice and thrown it on the floor. It was a fitting description for the ninja of ice, but this was the first time Kai had seen Zane scared. Like, completely petrified scared. So, he told the truth. He told Zane that no matter what, he'd still be their brother. And, the next thing he knew, Zane had unlocked his true potential. There were some other things that happened between that, but Kai was too busy getting the crap beaten out of him by Treehorns. He knew though, as they went back to the bounty, that everything was going t be okay.

Oh, how he wished he could be right at least once

Zane was gone now. Dead, by the hands of the Overlord. The five ninjas became four, and Kai was angrier than ever before. More than when his parents died, more than when he hadn't reached his potential, more than when Nya was captured by Samukai. All they could find was half his faceplate. They buried it, and Borg even had a memorial statue for Zane, something Kai wished he could smile at. He got up and told a speech about how great Zane was, and sometimes he would believe they would be okay, but he knew he was wrong. He saw the faces his brothers had. No one would be even close to okay for a long time. Then, it started to snow. Many were happy about this, but Kai wanted to burn it. He wanted to make it all disappear. It was too much like Zane, and after all that happened, nothing was going to change one fact.

Kai always hated snow.

And now he had another reason to.
