Disclaimer: I do not own Harry Potter. He and anything else that's recognizable is the property of JKR, and I claim no rights.

AN: This is a short one shot that falls under the universe of 'The Rose, The Star and the Wand'. In it Draco Malfoy glimpses an intriguing woman on the street that, whether he know it or not, is about to change his life forever. Since I still have writers block for 'TRTSaTW' I decided to write this, so there are some hints to the plot of that story. No real spoilers for the other series, and the elusive young Mrs. Malfoy won't make any actual appearance in this so there's nothing to worry about.

How Draco Malfoy lost his heart

The late spring day was pleasantly mild as Draco stepped out of the Gringotts. Shoving the notes he'd collected into his cloak he stalked down the Alley, glowering at any that happened to be in his way. Keeping the Malfoy estates above board was proving to harder with each passing year. In the four years since the fall of Voldemort, and his reluctant exoneration, his parents seemed to be more occupied with spending galleons then worrying about generating any. He'd done his best to invest their remaining funds, even going as far as to delve into the muggle 'stock market', which was doing fairly well at the moment.

Crossing over towards the apothecary he snorted as he saw yet another poster portraying the youngest Weasley. Apparently since the end of the war she had dumped Potter flat to pursue a career as a Quidditch player, and was doing fairly well at it. He wasn't exactly sure what had become of the boy wonder, last he had heard Potter had let his hair grow out and had pierced his ear. Though now that he thought about it he had heard that one Ravenclaws name mentioned with his, though in all honesty Draco had cared very little about Potter's dating habits and hadn't cared to remember her name.

Shaking his head he moved into the shop, browsing through the shelves for the needed ingredients. What he wouldn't give for the days when he was rich enough to afford pre-made potions. Absentmindedly weighting the red wood shards and ashwinder blood he needed, he allowed his eyes to glance out the window from time to time for no particular reason.

Rounding another shelf in search of newt eyes the clear sound of laughter echoed through the story. Glancing through the open door way and out into the alley his gaze stopped on a young woman. Dressed in a peculiar set of puce robes she twirled the light reflecting off of rich golden hair. Throwing her head back she laughed at something her friend had said, smiling brightly and returning the jest in kind.

Draco, for just a moment, stood transfixed. Never before in his life had he seen someone like her. Then again, he had spent his last few years at Hogwarts attached to Pansy Parkinson. He shuddered at the remembrance of that particular 'relationship'. Shaking his self out of his thoughts his eyes returned to the road, only to now find it empty. Taking large measured steps toward the window he glanced both ways down the Alley for any sign of puce or gold. Spotting a twirl of robe enter the Emporium he quickly paid for his purchases.

Stepping out into the Alley he once again glanced both ways before heading towards the Emporium. He had absolutely no clue why he was doing this, or even why it mattered. In fact he was quiet sure he'd gone insane in that very moment. But, for what ever reason, he had to find out what made her so attractive. He didn't know why but he had to know who she was, before he really did go insane.

AN: What do you think? Yes, its finished, at least for now. The story of who this is will be continued in 'TRTSaTW' but for now this is a taste of what you get. Please review, I really like to know what people think.
