Hiei quickly moved through the trees in his normal black clothing. He stopped at one of them and waited until Kurama got out of school. When he heard girls screaming and crowding around the school's front gates, he got off the tree. Kurama smiled brightly at all the girls and politely turned down their offers. Then he noticed the red-eyed Fire Demon. He was quite surprised to see him here in the Ningenkai. The red-head waved at Hiei with a smile. He got out of the crowd as fast as he could. Hiei joined him.
"What brings you here, Hiei?"
"Visiting Yukina."
Silence fell between them for a while as they walked. Kurama was the first one to break the silence.
"When will you tell Yukina that you're her brother?"
Hiei growled in annoyance.
"I told you to stay out of my business!"
"Hiei, she deserves to know."
The annoyed Fire Demon snorted.
"Hn! Nosy baka kitsune!" With that, he was off.
Kurama frowned. Yukina really wanted to find her brother, but the short- tempered youkai wouldn't listen. Hiei thought of going back to Makai but something was stopping him. Maybe he should tell Yukina? He shook the thought off. No. He would be rejected. He couldn't bear another rejection. He was unwanted by the world, the Forbidden Child. Yukina was such a sweet and innocent girl, she wouldn't want 'HIM' to be her brother.
He was now near Genki's Temple. He laid down in the grass and stared at the stars.
"Konnichiwa Hiei-san."
Hiei looked up with his ruby eyes just to see a pair of blood-red eyes staring back at him. Yukina smiled sweetly.
"Yukina."
"Hai, Hiei-san?"
"What would you want your brother to be like?"
Yukina sat down in the grass next to Hiei.
"Well, I would want him to be like you."
She smiled at him. Hiei blinked in shock. His fine shaped brows knitted in confusion.
"Me? Why?"
"Because, You're always so kind and nice to me, you're always there to protect me. You've always been like a brother to me and I always wished.that you were my real brother."
Hiei was happy inside but wouldn't let it show. After a long, silent moment he breathed in slowly and spoke.
"Yukina.I.am your brother."
Yukina's eyes twinkled with joy. She then grabbed him and hugged him tightly. Then she looked up at his face.
"Why did you wait so long to tell me?"
Hiei turned his head away, ashamed.
"I was afraid of rejection."
"Rejection? You're a dream brother!"
She hugged him tighter and burrowed her face in his chest. Hiei shyly returned the hug with a smile. Maybe he really had a reason to live.
