The Last Conversation
Disclaimer: I own nothing
Description: Kitty and John's last conversation.
"You hate it here don't you?" I asked him, already knowing the answer.
"Hate's a strong word," He responded.
It was a cool summer day, well cool for mid August. We lied next to one of Miss Munroe's gardens looking up at the clouds, which there were very few of. My head lied on his chest and I could feel each breath he took and the vibrations when he talked. When younger students walked by the laughed and snickered at the sight of us two love birds. When an older student or a teacher walked by they just shook their heads, wondering how the hell someone like me, the straight A 'perfect' student fell in love with John Allerdyce, the pyromaniac with a bad attitude. I don't understand it either. I remember that day so well, detail for detail, because it was the last conversation/argument I had with John.
"But you do," I said as I sat up, he continued to lie there, not responding. "Why?"
"Why what?" He asked.
"Why do you hate it here?" I asked again.
"I never said I hated it here," His gaze shifted from me to the sky.
"But you do," I repeated. Just by the way he won't look me in the eyes I know.
"Did you recently develop psychic powers and not tell me or something?" That was his way of admitting he does. He sits up, "Sometimes I just think I'm too good for this place."
"Too good, or too bad?" That comment shouldn't have been made but it was the truth.
"Doesn't it ever bug you that only the adults get to see all the action? They get to go out and kick some ass while we're stuck here studying and doing normal kid shit," He ranted.
"We are normal kids," I reminded him.
"That's the point, we're not!" He stood up. "We're far beyond normal and we deserve better!"
"You sound like Magneto," I rolled my eyes, I shouldn't have ever said that, maybe it wouldn't have given him ideas.
"Maybe what he believes in is right," He remarked.
"What he believes in got him thrown in jail," I pointed out, getting frustrated with him.
"Well a lot of great leaders have been in jail. Like MLK JR," At that statement I cracked up laughing, "What's so funny?"
"Did you really just compare Martin Luther King JR, a civil rights leader, someone who wanted equality to Magneto a crazy madman who thinks mutants should rule over the humans?" I was still laughing.
"That's not the point. I'm just saying that great leaders in the past have been jailed and considered criminals. Hell, my country was formed by convicts," He said I was still snickering a bit.
"Yeah and look how you turned out," I decided to crack my own smart ass remark.
"Shut up," He glared at me.
"Name one good thing about living here," I said, going back onto the previous subject.
"Besides you?" I nodded, "Let me think. The teachers, wait no, they all hate me. My room, nope I have to share that with iceboy. Friends, don't have any. Nope can't think of anything besides you." He sighed and then his tone changed to more serious, "I'm not going to stay here forever, Kit."
"But you're not leaving anytime soon, right?" I asked, almost begged.
"Right," He didn't look me in the eye when he said that but I didn't catch it at the time.
"Well, I better go study I have a huge test tomorrow," I said.
"Ok, talk to you later Kitten," I walked away, if I knew that would be the last time I'd ever talk to him I wouldn't have. But I couldn't tell the future. If only I knew I would have told him I loved him and begged him to stay and never leave me. That night the mansion was attacked and I haven't heard from him since.
