Caroline loves the ocean. She loves the look of it, the feel of the sand and the water, and she adores the smell.

Elijah calls her a dreamer.

"You know," she tells him conversationally, "maybe if you dreamed more, you wouldn't seem so unhappy."

"Do I seem unhappy to you?" he asks her.

Caroline nods. They're on a private beach, the water is beautiful, and all he can do is criticize her.

"You aren't always perceptive, Caroline Forbes," he says, pulling the sunglasses over his eyes, effectively ending the conversation.

Caroline loves hunting. "I don't actually like eating the bunnies, but catching them makes me feel good. Calm."

"It makes you feel superior," Elijah supplies grouching, upon the discovery of just whatthey're hunting.

"No," she answers, her hand shaking slightly. "It makes me feel in control," she admits.

Whatever the reason for the expedition, Elijah follows her through the woods as she chases bunnies and squirrels.

She glares at him when she notices that he's caught five in the time it took her to get one.

"Don't feel too disappointed," he says.

Caroline loves shopping. She loves buying new things, but more than that, she loves trying on everything.

She puts on a fashion show for him because he's there, and because it's his credit card that is paying for this.

"I like the yellow dress," he says, after she tries on the blue. "Go get that one, we're buying that too."

When she hands it to him with a smile on her face, he puts it in the pile with a whole bunch of other clothes.

"When are we going to do something you like?" she asks as they are in the car again.

Elijah's hardly paying attention, yet is able to maintain complete control. Caroline envies that about him.

"We are," he answers.

Caroline shakes her head. "No…we've only done things I like—I picked out the beach and the hunting and the shopping—you didn't choose anything.

"Watching you makes me happy, Caroline. I chose to let you choose."

Caroline thinks that's the best answer ever.
