Summary: Byakuya tries to cope after Hisana's death.

That first night when she had been taken away to be prepared for her burial Byakuya kept a silent vigil by walking to the room she spent her last days in, hoping that he would open those doors again and find her sleeping there. But every time he just came back to an empty room, where all traces of the lone occupant of it had been removed already and left to return to his own room, feeling just as empty.

He had spent the little time they had together slowly building his life around the dream of her being able to stay by his side for the rest of his life. A foolish dream that seemed even more foolish still when he didn't let it go after she fell to the sickness that took her life. Which was most likely why he was still waiting for her to return to him again, even well after she was buried. Still waited to find her in her room, where she would smile at him and ask him how his day was and if he wanted to join her. And he longed to be able to tell her yes again to make up for all the times he refused to do work instead.

He didn't want to admit that she was gone, didn't want to admit how lost he felt without her, or how much it hurt to have her sister be her spitting image and living under the same roof that she once did. As head of the Kuchiki family he was supposed to be above all that, supposed to be untouched by anything or anyone that would get in the way of his duty and responsibilities. But he was learning as time kept passing by that he was less of what everyone expected him to be and more of real person that could be touched, be hurt and loved, the things he allowed Hisana to waken inside of him. Until he could finally one day open himself up again to another though, he still waited.
