It was only much later Jan Di truly understood what was between her and Ji Hoo. When she grew up and matured. Yes, she had suffered hardships and heartache in high school. But certain lessons are only taught with time.
Yoon Ji Hoo... His name always brought a smile to her face; and a surge of poorly hidden jealousy to her husband's face. Jun Pyo loved Ji Hoo like a brother, and Jun Pyo knew Jan D loves him. She married him after all! But it burned him that she loved both of them, even though she loves her husband more.
Jan Di accepted long ago that she and Ji Hoo were soul mates. They were what people searched the world to find. Ji Hoo and Jan Di were the halves to a perfect pair. They would give their hearts, their souls for the other's happiness. But they were not meant to be together. It was a friendship that went beyond friendship. It was love that was deeper than that of lovers. A bond closer than that of family. The fortune teller was right. The man she will marry would not be her soul mate.
No, Ji Hoo was the one who would hold her trust, her faith in the world. When her world faltered, started to crumble and burn, he would be the one rushing to save her. He was her best friend, her confidant and her last line of defence. And she knew she was his.
But it remained: the lingering affection. The thoughts of 'what if' and 'what could be' often slipped into Jan Di's mind when her gaze drifted to the White Prince. Dreams of another time, when they both made different decisions, rose to the surface when their gazes met. 'Perhaps, if we had met under different circumstances' were the words on their lips. If Ji Hoo hadn't love Seo Hyun and if Jan Di hadn't encouraged him to chase his love to Paris. Maybe if he had been there while Jun Pyo fell in love, she would not have fallen in love with the curly haired man. Instead she would have had her love returned by her fire fighter.
But if they tried now. If they tried again... Everything could be ruined. No; everything would be ruined. Breaking Jun Pyo's heart would be as good as breaking her own. She loved the man, all his faults and hidden sweetness. He was a breath of fresh air, the reason her world turned and the light of her life. She truly loved him and she felt guilty every time her mind drifted to thoughts of 'what could be' with Ji Hoo.
She will be the one with the biggest smile when Ji Hoo falls completely in love with a woman who loves him back just as much. She will be the first to congratulate him and wish him all the best. Because, he deserves that. He, out of everyone, deserves to be loved utterly and completely.
Jan Di wanted Ji Hoo to smile more. Laugh more. Live more. Love more. Because, even if in this instance being Soul Mates does not mean True Love, she loves him.
Jan Di and Ji Hoo are not together. They would never be together, even if they do love one another. So, maybe in their next life they will find love with one another, because they are soul mates.
And maybe in their next life, soul mates will be true love as well.
