I own nothing.

The first time Sam dies, he's twenty-four. His life doesn't flash before his eyes, he doesn't think about all the things he shouldn't have done or the things he wished he'd had said. He dies holding on to Dean, his brothers arms strong wrapped around him tightly.

Heaven's nice he thinks, but tells them, "I won't stay."

"No one ever leaves." They say.

They don't know Dean, he thinks.

"My brother needs me. I won't stay."

The second time Sam dies he's twenty-seven, and barely awake and still in bed. The man opens fire on him and Sam wonders if the man isn't doing the right thing.

When he sees the Pearly Gates he tells St. Peter there's been a mistake. He'll never know what the Saint's reply was, because the next thing he knows he's got Stephanie's family looking at him.

The third time Sam dies he's twenty-seven, and he makes it his choice because he refuses to give up.

Sam's last sight is Dean's swollen and bloody face, and it strengths his determination. Maybe this wasn't what he had wanted to have happened, but he knew this was how it had to be.

It had to end with him.

The fourth time Sam dies he's seventy-six, and it's his final time. Dean had been gone for two years and Sam was tired of living. He lies down to sleep and just never wakes up. It's the most peaceful way he's died yet.

When he opens his eyes, it's to clear blue skies, Midwestern golden fields on either side of a two lane road, and he's in the Impala.

"About time you showed up." Dean says from his left.

Sam looks over and doesn't fight the grin that erupts on his face. Dean smiles back, his eyes bright and happy. Sam knows he's home.

A/N: I forgot about the time Sam died in "The Song Remains the Same," and when he was hit by lightening. Sorry about that. Eventually I'll add them when I can figure out how...Sam's died alot.
