Prologue
October 2002
She stood there nervous.
As much as she tried to convince herself that there was nothing to be nervous about, that the man she had come to see was just that, a man, the other part of her knew that was not true. The man she had come to see was an icon, a legend in the business they were both in. A man that gave as good as he got, who did not know the meaning of the word quit, even in times when others thought he should. In short, a man Stephanie McMahon - Helmsley respected as much as her own father.
Her father. A small part of Stephanie that still held Vince McMahon on a pedestal wondered why she did not just go to him with this mystery facing her. Afterall, her father had more than enough money and resources to devote to it. The majority of Stephanie McMahon Helmsley was no longer naive, nor did it idealize her father. She knew exactly what would be his reaction if she showed her father what she had. It would not be pretty and it would not give Stephanie the help she needed.
Wiping sweaty palms on her Armani pants, Stephanie nervously hit the button attached to the gate's security system.
"Yes, ma'am," a gruff guard's voice said, letting the youngest McMahon know that she had indeed been monitored since she had driven up to the gate a few minutes ago, "Can I help you?"
Stephanie took a deep breath, trying to keep the nerves from being evident in her voice when she spoke.
"Mrs. Helmsley to see Mr. Flair please?"
The gate opened, allowing her access to Ric Flair's estate.
