A/N: This is my first Fairy Tail fan fiction; I hope you'll like it!

Disclaimer: I don't own Fairy Tail.

The color red. It was the first thing that Gellal noticed about her. The girl's hair was just so eye catching so when they asked him to give her a last name, he automatically said Scarlet. Because her hair was a beautiful shade of scarlet red.

Erza because that was the girl's name, decided to leave them behind after a while. But she was like the blood, on him, no matter how hard he tried to scrub it off; he couldn't get rid of it.

Years passed. He grew older and the tower of heaven was near completion. But Erza was still in his mind, she and her blood red hair never left.

Then it happened, he took her back to be his sacrifice but his plan failed. The last thing he saw was her curtain of scarlet locks falling on her crying face.

He was revived some time later and the first thing he wanted to see was Erza. Erza's red hair.

He saw differently after that day. He knew he had to atone for his sins to make it all right. To make her proud. So he stayed away and contented himself to watch her from afar.

It was not as hard as he thought it would be, her red hair was easy to spot after all. It was the first thing he noted that was missing when she and her guild disappeared. And it was the same thing he recognized first when they came back seven years later.

The color red was a part of Gellal's life, he finally accepted it. It was that color which stained his hands... That color lingered in his mind when nothing else did. And that was the color he always came back to.

Gellal was pulled out of his thoughts when he hears the music. Tonight is the yearly grand celebration courtesy of the Fiore royal family. It is a banquet to celebrate the end of Fiore's war against Alvarez and all of the mages are invited, even them. He is just observing everyone but it seems that his troublesome thoughts run away from him.

Gellal blink, he thinks he sees a thin red string tied to his pinky finger and it's pulling him over. He shakes his head; his mind must be playing tricks on him. But he dismisses the thought as soon as it had come because Erza Scarlet is now standing in front of him.

And the red string? It was her hair, it got tangled on his fingers before and when they got it loose, he hid a strand. It has been with him ever since.

Gellal let-out a half smile then. "Hey, Erza." He greets her warmly, casually removing the lock from sight.

Erza tilts her head graciously in his direction like the queen that she is. She is wearing a frilly long sleeved dress that has a balloon for a skirt and a low cut on the chest area. Her big pink hat matches her outfit very well and it slightly lowered to her face because of Erza's earlier action. "Gellal." She greets him back and then Erza gives him one of her smiles. The smile that he now knows that's only for him and him alone.

He strides closer, offering her his arm. Perhaps he'll stay with her this time. The color red has always been a part of Gellal so maybe... Just maybe, it's time to make the girl with the scarlet red hair a part of the rest of his life permanently. Her hair is the red string of fate that brought him back to her after all.
