a/n: like my fic, 'What Draws Us' some of this was taken from real life. My mother is still alive, and I love her very much. She did speak these words to me but I took it and gave them an angsty depressing twist.

"I just want you to be happy." Those were the last words my mother ever spoke to me. In fact, those were the last words that ever fell from my mother's lips.

I was sitting in my room, because, contrary to popular belief, I was not as spoiled in my teenage years as I had been in childhood. I think I had a book, although I am not sure since the events soon to follow completely overshadowed anything my life might have been before.

I was startled out of whatever mindless task I was occupied with at the moment by the loud clap of apparition in the hallway outside my door. No one ever Apparated inside the manor, let alone directly onto the second floor. People would Apparate onto the doorstep and then ring the bell or, if they were my parents, enter on their own.

I pried my bedroom door open, just a crack, and peered out. My mother was lying there with her head turned away from me. She was a bloody mess. I gasped and her head flew around in my direction. I saw fear flash in her eyes before they softened.

"Draco," she called out to me, her voice softer than I had ever heard it. "Come here. And hurry, we have not much time!"

I could hear the urgency in her voice so hastened out of my room and knelt beside her, on the floor.

"Listen carefully," she said, "and do whatever I tell you, you hear?" I nodded earnestly and she continued, "Unzip my dress in the back and grab the pouch attached over my left shoulder blade." I did as she asked and held the pouch out to her. She, however, made no move to grasp it in her own hand. "Inside the pouch is a letter and a portkey. Activate the portkey. When you get to the location, give the letter to Anastasia and only to Anastasia. She will help you from there."

"But, mother-" I began and she cut me off.

"Do as I say, Draco! We haven't much time! Your father will be home soon! I love you, Draco," she said, her voice beginning to trail off, "and I just want you to be happy…"

She closed her eyes and I took that as my cue to activate the portkey.

Now I lay today's Daily Profit in a box. Now there are two in my box. The one recording the suicide of Narcissa Malfoy from six months prior and the one from today, proclaiming the downfall of the Dark Lord. Inside, it contains a list of the Death Eaters who were given the kiss and, halfway down the third column, is 'Malfoy, Lucius'.

As I enter the family room, I catch the worried look my Aunt Anastasia and my Uncle Luc give each other. They have obviously already heard the news and are worried about my reaction.

I am distracted however by the sound of the front door slamming and my name being called, "Draco! Draco! I'm home!"

I turn around just in time to see my little cousin Dominic round the corner. He comes running towards me and I sweep him up in a hug. "How was school?" I ask.

He drags me to the couch and we sit down, me on the couch, him on my leg. As Dominic prattles on about kindergarten, my mother's words come back to me. "I just want you to be happy."

I hold my cousin and look over his head to grin at my Aunt and Uncle, the only family I have left. I realize that my mother's wish came true. I am happy. Sitting here, in America with a family that loves me, I have found happiness. I have found happiness in the life that my mother gave to me. She sacrificed herself so that I could find happiness. I have found happiness in death.

A/N: wow. Angsty much???
