Out on the training field, Aika was getting used to combat maneuvers with her fellow scouts. She regularly received compliments from Welkin, as her accuracy had improved greatly in the three months since she was named to Squad 7. Occasionally, he eyes would drift to the sky, and she would watch the planes fly overhead every few hours.

"Hey, Vyse," she said to the eye-patched soldier next to her.

Vyse nodded toward Aika without pausing to put down his machine gun, as he was practicing his run-and-gun technique. "What's up, Aika?"

"Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a pilot?" she asked. "You know, flying over enemy territory, slicing through clouds…doing barrel rolls and loop-de-loops and all that good stuff."

"Yeah, I've thought about it a few times. It doesn't quite match the feeling you get when you're on ground level, though. That's where all the action is these days."

Aika fixed her gaze back onto the moving target a hundred meters away from her and fired off a few rounds. "But if by chance our army did have an air force, do you think I could be your co-pilot?"

"Sure," he replied. "I wouldn't mind."
