Fight For You

Zoe gazed down at the wedding ring on her finger. Why had this happened? Why did she have to let Max go?

She was a fighter, she didn't usually give up on things. But, in this particular scenario, she was slipping, doubting. Doubting her future as Mrs Walker, and doubting her future happiness.

With a shaking hand, she took her wedding ring off. That was it.

A tear fell down her face. She quickly wiped it away, and made her way back to her car.

Max noticed Zoe, her head bowed, one hand at her side and the other clutching onto her handbag, gripping onto it for dear life.

He frowned. "Be back in a minute." He muttered to the other staff-not that they noticed, too wrapped up in their own charter.

"Zo?" he called. "Zo! What's up?"

Zoe's heart stopped. He called her Zo.

"I'm fine" she responded, not letting him see her tear stained face.

"No, you're not. I know you. What's the matter?" he urged.

She turned to him, slowly.

When he saw her, he hurried to her- she looked terrible. "Zoe..." he whispered.

Another tear fell down the consultant's face. "I- I've officially given up. On us. Dylan made me see."

Max's heart shattered. "Oh, Zoe..." he felt like crying too. Why did she do what she did?

"Max, I love you, but I can see that we don't have a future." Zoe looked him in the eye, then began to walk away.

"Oh yes we do." Max decided. No more fighting, no more sadness. He loved Zoe, and in that moment, he forgave her.

"What?" Zoe asked in disbelief.

"We do have a future. I forgive you, Zoe. I love you so much."

"I love you too." She breathed, and gazed into his eyes, hardly daring to believe that this was happening.

He looked down at her hand. "Do you still have your wedding ring?"

"Yes, it's in my pocket."

"May I have it, please?"

Zoe placed her wedding ring into his hand.

"Look at me." Max said gently. Zoe did so.

"This is me telling you that I've always been in love with you, and that I forgive you. That I want you, that I want us to be together. " Max whispered. He then placed Zoe's wedding ring back onto her third finger on her left hand.

Zoe began to cry. "Thank you, and I love you too." She whispered.

Max dipped his head and placed his lips on hers. He wrapped his arms around her waist, comforting her, remembering how much he'd missed her.

Zoe kissed him back, another tear, of happiness, this time, falling down her cheek.

When they broke apart, Zoe snuggled into Max, sniffling, yet overwhelmed with happiness.

"You're going to get my top wet" Max chuckled, kissing her forehead. "It's okay though. From now on, I'll always be here, for you, my wife."

Zoe smiled. "And I'll always be here for you, my husband." She said.
