Benjamin was not always so boring and quiet. Benjamin's birthday was the next day and he was about to turn 1 year old and Benjamin was very excited. His father had told him that he would get double rations for the whole day and that he would not have to work. So Benjamin went to bed later then usual because he knew that he would not have to do any work the next day.

He awoke startled to see Mr. Jones above him looking down on him. Mr. Jones had a smile on his face the type he got when he was turning in the harvest or getting money, but then he left the room. Benjamin noticed that he put down milk and a biscuit for him. He was happy he had never tried a biscuit before and it was marvelous. He quickly gulped down his milk and headed outside.

Benjamin saw his mother and father hard at work in the fields and he let them be because he could see there work was hard today. He went to play with his young friend Boxer. Boxer and Benjamin and Benjamin were best friends since the age of 6 months. The main thing they did together was talk well grazing in the field. Benjamin and Boxer loved to talk together, they talked about all sorts of things but today they decided instead of talking and grazing they would go down to the waterhole and have a swim. Well swimming Benjamin dived down to the bottom of the waterhole and he saw a reflection on the bottom of the pool. He swam towards it and then he grabbed the object and went back to the surface.

When he got to the surface Boxer asked why he was down so long and Benjamin replied by showing him the object which turned out to be a key. Benjamin only new of one place where a key was used and that was the door near the back of the barn, so they decided to go see if they could open no animal has ever been in that room. Benjamin did not know even if Jones had ever been in there. They walked to the door in the barn.

Benjamin and Boxer were at the door the put the key it fit perfectly Benjamin turned the knob into a world of atrocities inside there was machines with metal cleavers and hanging bodies of animals skinned. Then in the middle of all these atrocities he froze, there was his mother and father being forced on to a conveyor belt Benjamin and Boxer froze they both wanted to turn and run, but there bodies would not move. They watched horrified as Benjamin's parents were butchered and there beside them standing with a maniacal look on his face as soon as the pair saw that they slammed the door pulled out the key sprinted and through it into the waterhole.

After that Benjamin cried for days and was depressed. Boxer's condition wasn't much better but after a week he let it go. Benjamin partially recovered after 3 moths with the help of Boxer, but from that day on Benjamin was never quite the same. He was quiet and only cared about himself and Boxer. He also never worked harder then the day before, but never less hard. That is the story of Benjamin and Boxer.
