Disclaimer: all the usual stuff...
AN: These stories are in response to the HBX June Challenge. The Challenge (below) had a lot of good days to choose from, however, I am attempting to write snapshots of life for our favourite pair for each day / theme.
I looked at the Bizarre and Unique calendar for June it occurred to me the sub title for the month must be "Harm". Some of the days include Flip a Coin Day (June 1st), National Chocolate Ice Cream Day(June 7th), Best Friends Day (June 8th), Red Rose Day (June 12th), Smile Power Day (June 15th), Fresh Veggies Day (June 16th), Eat Your Vegetables Day (June 17th) and it's National Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Month.
So what is your challenge? Write a story using one of the unique "Harm" days as your theme.
AN: Another snapshot - these are just short, one-offs. Alas, no continuance, no more.
Chocolate ice cream
"Chocolate ice cream! Chocolate ice cream! Chocolate ice cream!" came the chorused chant, accompanied by the banging of spoons on the table.
"This is your fault," Harm said to his wife, pointing the spoon in his hand at their four year – old identical twin daughters across the table from him. "They should be eating fruit salad and yoghurt or..."
"Chocolate ice cream," the girls said once more.
"Well, it is treat night," said Mac, referencing the one night the twins could choose a less healthy option for dessert.
"Yeah, still..." he said as he scooped the frozen treat into the girls' bowls.
"Thank you, daddy!" said Ava with a sweet smile. "You're the best."
"Thank you, daddy!" said Zoe blowing him a kiss. "I love you."
"You're both welcome," he replied, his heart melting just like the ice cream on the spoon in his hand.
After, in the kitchen cleaning up, Harm wrapped his arm around Mac's shoulders. "How come you didn't want your chocolate ice cream? Are you not feeling well?" he asked sincerely.
"No, I'm fine," she said kissing his cheek. "Just thought I'd have mine in bed later."
Harm grinned broadly. He loved it when Mac had her dessert in bed as, more often than not, it ended up all over them and resulted in a lot of kissing and licking and sucking; all in all a rather delightful way to spend the evening with his wife.
"Did you have any particular 'activity' in mind?" he asked, willing time to speed up so the girls would be in bed and the evening would be theirs.
"Well...remember the night we conceived the girls?" she started and Harm nodded. There were aspects of that night he would never forget. "Remember that thing we did second..." Harm frowned. "You've forgotten?"
"No, well...not forgotten as such," he said. "Just trying to remember the specific order of activities."
"Page 48," she replied and Harm trotted up the stairs to retrieve a book they kept hidden in the wardrobe, one which was well used up until the pregnancy.
Grabbing the book, he flicked the pages but found the required page was stuck to those either side. Leaving it on the shelf once more, Harm headed back downstairs.
"So?" Mac said as he re-entered the kitchen.
"The pages are all stuck together," he informed her. "What happened to it?"
"We had dessert in bed that night and decided to try a few of the more adventurous moves in that book," Mac reminded him.
"Oh, I remember that," he said, wrapping his arms around her. "We were quite acrobatic, weren't we? I'm sure that's how we got twins."
"I'm sure it is too," she concurred before kissing him deeply. "And do you remember what we were having for dessert that night?" she asked with a raised eyebrow.
Harm's face lit up as the memory came flashing back...now he knew where the girls got their devotion to the ice treat from. Harm replied with a grin, "Chocolate ice cream."
