Mental Stability

She could hear her voice haunting her in the wind. It danced on the edges of the building as she stared into the night sky. So many days had passed, so many things had happened since then, but still those words were what chose to haunt her. She let him assume it was her kidnapping that kept her up at night, and he assumed that she was incapable of lying to him. She did not call him a fool to his face, but her mind allowed the word to tease the tip of the tongue every now and then.

"…Goren's erratic and antisocial behavior, his volatile and bizarre interrogation techniques leave me…"

'They leave me alone.' She would never speak these words aloud, but they left her very much alone inside her own mind. She would forever wonder why no one questioned her stability when it was clear every time she glanced at her reflection that she was loosing it. Slowly, the insanity was in the painstakingly slowness of her slipping. She had serious doubts in her own behavior.

The stand, the entrapment, her husband, and now this loss of connection. She may have been cut off from him physically-her silent phone was an ever present reminder of that as she flipped it open repeatedly waiting for his garbled message-but she was cut off from him mentally. That time before this when they could share a glance and simply know without question was gone. It had crumbled one crack at a time.

"…Serious doubts about his judgment and his mental stability."

They called him the 'Nutjob'. As she watched Ross try to keep the encroaching headache at bay she wondered why Bobby's title did not apply to her.

For what was she for allowing her partner-her friend-to place himself in such a situation?
