Drew looked out into the bright Goldenrod City skyline. At night, the view at a high altitude was always a sight to see. Especially from one of the most popular hotels in the Johto region.
"It's so beautiful." Drew looked over to May, who was standing close to him, leaning against the railing like he was.
"Yeah, it is," Drew replied. Tomorrow they were both going to be entering the Pokemon Contest here in Goldenrod. As of right now, both of them had three ribbons, and were eager to get that fourth one. Of course, the rivalry was fierce, but neither of them boasted about it. To be honest, since they left for Johto, both of them had actually been acting differently. May seemed a bit quieter than usual and Drew wasn't nearly as sarcastic, nor did he make any snide remarks. Of course, there was a reason for this.
"I know what's going on in both of our minds," Drew thought. "She likes me and I…like her. And yet, neither one of us can tell the other. Is now the time to tell her? It may be my only chance…"
"Drew?" He broke out of his thoughts and looked to May, who was staring at him. "You alright?"
"Oh, yeah," he said. It was now or never. If he didn't do it now, he may never get another chance. "Hey May?"
"Yes?" May replied.
"There's something I need to tell you," Drew said. He could see now she was clearly paying attention to him now. "I bet you've been wondering why I've always given you roses before."
"I thought they were all for Beautifly?" May said with a slight smirk.
"Oh, they are," Drew said, and his familiar smirk appeared. However, it quickly faded. "But, they were also for you."
May instantly felt herself blushing. "Me?" she said.
"Yes," Drew said, and May could see he was blushing as well. "When I first met you, I thought I was just seeing another random Pokemon Coordinator. But then, after seeing what you've gone through and what you've accomplished, you reminded me a lot of myself." He then smiled. "What I'm trying to say is that… I've had feelings for you for the longest time."
"Drew, I…" May said. She then smiled as well. "I thought you were kind of a jerk, but then, I saw you were kind of just playing around with me, and then I realized you were doing it for a reason. I thought I might've been wrong, but I've been proven otherwise. I have feelings for you too."
Her and Drew then gave each other a hug, holding each other tightly. "Hey May, can I just say one thing?" Drew then asked.
"What's that?" May replied, looking into his eyes.
"No matter what happens tomorrow, I just want you to know that I'll always love you, even as a rival."
May gasped slightly, and almost couldn't hold back tears. "And I'll always love you too, even as a rival." Soon their lips were locked together and once again they were holding each other closely, illuminated by the Goldenrod City lights.
