So I wrote this earlier today in class because I was already ahead I the work and notes so I figured, "Why not?" So yeah. It's short, but oh well.
Avatar the Last Airbender belongs to Bryan and Mike.
Azula hated the rain. The thunder and lightning, she didn't mind. But she hated the rain. Even in her clouded state of mind when medicated, when there was rain, she knew. It was like her mind purposely focused in on the rain, as if it was trying to drive her farther from sanity than she already was. The rain was cold and wet, and Azula hated both of those sensations unless she was bathing.
There was nothing that she found enjoyable about rain. Puddles always soaked her shoes, and Zuko jumping around in them soaked her clothes.
Now it was worse. The rain always leaked into her cell. Dripped onto her head. Made little puddles. Made it colder. Soaked the rags she was forced to wear. Spirits forbid that she have warmer clothes (if what she was wearing could be called clothes) or have another blanket. Or maybe have a cell that didn't leak.
The rain made life in her cell intolerable. While before, she could remain lucid and take care of herself. When or after the rain, she'd see images of her mother, smiling that sad smile that made Azula want to kill her. Or maybe Ty Lee, smiling and laughing—one second calling her perfect, the next plotting her demise. Occasionally her father calling her a failure of a Fire Lord, losing to Zuko like she had. Mai with her knives, poised to kill. The Avatar and his ragtag crew, grinning confidently now that she was behind bars.
Sometimes she'd see strangers that she never met. Earth Kingdom peasants, something like that. Unidentifiable Dai Li agents.
Her cell smelled like mold. She was fairly certain that she herself reeked of the stench. After all, she was one of the few "patients" that were not permitted to leave their cells. It was supposed to be a place of healing. That was what Zuko had said, but of course he was lying. He was probably starving her out with poor food and only mocking her with the rain.
Perhaps it wasn't even raining. Maybe it was the Water Tribe peasant that had somehow beaten Azula. Oh how they were all probably laughing.
All of them. The whole world most likely. Of course they would. They'd been told she was evil. Yes, that sounded like the lies that the Avatar and her brother would spread. And they'd recruit Ty Lee, who would be happy to help. Because Ty Lee hated her.
Just like how her mother hated her. Because unlike the others, it took Ty Lee longer to actually see Azula. It took about ten years for Ty Lee to see what everyone else saw because Ty Lee didn't know what a monster was when it looked her in the eye.
That was what the rain kept telling her. The whole world saw a monster when they were supposed to see a savior.
