Late
'I'm sorry sir.' She stated as she rushed in.
'What took you so long?' He asked, obviously irritated.
'I got a little tied up at the base, Dr. Lam wanted to run a few tests.'
Jack sat up straighter and looked at her, concern clearly evident on his face. 'Something wrong?'
He stood.
'No, no! Everything's fine. Just a routine thing.'
'Are you sure you're okay?'
'I'm fine. If you give me fifteen minutes to get ready sir.' She asked, smiling innocently.
Jack sat back on the couch and sighed. 'The name's Jack, Carter.'
As she walked up the stairs, she heard his remark and rolled her eyes. 'Sam! Please!' Only he could pull that one.
Jack casually fingered the holes on his blazer. He was always impatient when it came to waiting. And waiting for Sam when she was getting ready; really getting ready, always made Jack irritable; however he was always pleased when she eventually showed herself, and he would always let the irritated Air Force General slide away and the plain, calm 'Jack' resurface.
Sitting there, in his dress blues, medals and all, made Sam grin from ear to ear. She too, was dressed in her dress blues and was finally ready. She stood in the doorway for a few seconds before Jack noticed her. He smiled and stood.
'Ready?'
She nodded and he held his arm out, which she graciously took. She looped her arm through his and they swiftly left the house.

Dinner was a quiet affair with a select few military personnel. A standard meet and greet basically. General Hammond had asked Jack and Sam to attend, which they'd accepted Jack hadn't been too happy but Sam had won him round. Bribery worked wonders. The three Air Force officers sat at the same table, discussing the few unclassified stories that they were allowed to repeat. Hammond had had the whole table in fits of laughter more times than Jack cared to recall. Perhaps because most of the stories had involved either Jack or Sam at a loose end, a compromising position or in trouble. Secretly Jack clutched Sam's hand under the table as a way of compensating for the dreadful tales that Hammond had been retelling. She smiled as she felt his hand close around hers and relaxed a little more. As soon as speeches were made Jack and Sam excused themselves and headed home.

'I'm late.' Sam mumbled suddenly.
Jack sat up further in bed and placed his book on his lap. 'Huh?'
'I'm late.' She repeated, a little quieter.
She put the crossword she was currently doing down and turned to face him. She crossed her legs and looked at him.
He shifted slightly and looked back at her. 'If this is a way of apologizing for this evening, forget about it.'
She shook her head and laughed.
'I'm late Jack.' She said, smiling, her head bobbed as she said the words.
'Oh.' Jack stated.
'Oh.' She repeated, 'Is that all you have to say?'
He closed his eyes and thought for a moment. She took his hesitation and a personal insult and tutted.
'What?' he said, opening his eyes.
'I'm not gonna give this up Jack.'
'Honey, you assume to much…' he said. His face broke into a smile, 'You didn't let me finish.'
He turned his body to face her. 'I was just about to say, before you so rudely interrupted, that I think that us, and a baby. I think we'd be great.'
She grinned and leapt on top of him.
'Whoa, steady Carter.'
She playfully slapped his arm. 'The name's Sam.'
