The beer bottle crashed against the wall, shattering, while the minuscule pieces of glass sprayed around the room. Jason placed his hands on the pool table but quickly moved them; he was so angry he thought he might put the pool table through the wall next and sometimes, that table was the one thing that kept him sane. It was now that he didn't have her anymore. He could hardly fathom the thought and leaned against the sliding glass door to support his weight with his face to the ceiling.

Every muscle in his body ached and the frustration bubbled inside him. He wanted to break more than he already had and it wouldn't even matter now if he did. He'd already broken Courtney's heart and she had been the most important thing in his life.

Jason could still hear her voice from that night when she'd left. I can't be with a man who could have stopped a murder and didn't. If that was the case, how could she have been with him knowing what he did for a living? He did more than refuse to stop a murder, he committed them; he was surprised that this had been what ended their relationship.

She was loving, gentle, kind and selfless. Now, sitting here in the dark and thinking about it clearly for possibly the first time, it was hard to believe she'd stayed with him this long. Hard to believe she'd married him and had wanted to have a family with him. She'd lost herself somewhere along the way and that night she'd reached the breaking point, he realized. He'd been selfish, he thought, throughout their relationship and he even told her that once. But I'm selfish because I still want you in my life, even though it's dangerous for you. After she'd lost their baby. She'd gone through so much pain because of him, she'd been surrounded by violence, but she was strong and kept going until it was too much even for her. He'd lost her and now he felt helpless; Jason wasn't sure which fact made him more angry.
