They were fighting. They always seemed to fight nowadays. But tonight was different. Tonight she didn't scream or yell or push or shove. She didn't drench him in ice cold water or freeze him to a tree, but what she did do hurt him more than he could even understand.
Zuko watched as the tears silently ran down her tanned cheeks and at that moment he could feel his heart crumbling.
He placed his hand on her cheek and wiped away her tears with the pad of his thumb and she looked up at him. Agni, those eyes, those beautiful blue eyes that could bore into his soul and read him like a book. Those eyes that could make his heart swell with just a passing glance. Those eyes were now shining with so much pain and sorrow; it made his heart ache.
Looking into those eyes he just wanted it all to go away. He longed for the sparkle in her eyes to return, for her smile to come back and shine just like it used. At that moment he would have literally done anything, absolutely anything, to make her happy again.
And then she whispered, "How could you do this to me?"
With those words Zuko's heart broke.
