"Cosette, Odette & Taylor Swift Songs" It's Cosette's turn to babysit, and she sets up a painting easel for Odette, who loves to paint outside the lines. While Odette is painting to her heart's content, Cosette watches, with one earbud of her earphones in. Cosette, as it turns out, is a Taylor Swift fan, and has a few full CDs downloaded to her iPod. One of the songs that ends up playing while she's watching Odette, who is surprisingly good at not making a mess on the counter, is Never Grow Up. She starts listening fully to the lyrics. In hindsight, she decides this was a mistake. Seeing Odette at this age,
before anything matters, like grades and boys and heartbreaks and failures and pressures, seeing her always smiling, she doesn's want her to grow up. She ends up crying there at the table. Odette notices, grabs her hand, and asks her what's wrong. Cosette sniffs, wipes her cheek with the back of her hand, and smiles, despite her red-rimmed eyes. "Nothing, sweetie. Everything's fine." To turn the attention away, she looks at Odette's painting, which is actually quite good for a three and a half year old. It's flowers. "Your picture looks beautiful, Odie!" Odette smiles from ear to ear, hugs Cosette, and giggles her little giggle. "It's for you!"
(None of them want her to grow up. They want her to stay like this. Not a care in the world. Happy.)
