Star Ocean: 'Till the End of Time

A young man paced back and forth across a room. He was muttering to himself. "What if we don't succeed? What if we lose? What if he kills us instead of the other way around?" He sighed and sat quickly on a bench, cupping his head in his hands.

"Calm down Fayt." A girl that is two years his minor sat down next to him and placed her hand on his shoulder. "Everything will be ok. Nothing will go wrong."

He lifted his head and smiled at her. "Thank you Sophia." She smiled in return and grabbed his hand.

"Will you maggots cut it out? We will not lose to the fool that calls himself God. And there is no reason for you two to be acting like a couple when I am around. It's nauseating." A man was sitting not to far away, sharpening his sword. They looked at him and he rolled his eyes.

Fayt stood up and blushed. "Albel, how long have you been sitting there?" Sophia stood up as well, and grabbed Fayt's arm with a pleading look not to start a fight with this man. Fayt looked at her and nodded, acknowledging her wish before he turned his attention back to the other man.

"I've been here for longer than you have, fool." Albel sheathed his sword and glared at Fayt. "You were the ones that interrupted me." He stormed back to where the rest of their traveling companions were waiting.

"Why do you put up with him Fayt?" Sophia asked as soon as Albel was out of hearing distance. "He is going to end up stabbing us in the back one day."

Fayt lead Sophia back to the bench and sat her down. He keels in front of her. "Sophia, he won't stab us in the back. I trust him. People do not betray the trust of others." He smiles at her.

Sophia nods, and then hugs him. She sits back up and starts to say, "I guess you are rig…" She never got to finish that sentence. A sword came from nowhere, decapitating her before she or Fayt even noticed it.

It took Fayt a few moments before the killer's identity would register in his mind. It was Albel. He was covered in much more blood than Sophia had split during her death. Fayt looked over to where Albel had used to be, and saw all of his friends dead. "H-How could you do this to us?" Fayt stuttered.

"Simple." Albel said, licking the blood that was slowly traveling down his sword. "The king of Airygylph ordered me to before we even left Elicoor." Albel flicked the rest of the blood off of his sword before turning to look at Fayt. Fayt stood up shakily.

"I trusted you though…." Fayt said as he started backing away from Albel. "How could you do this to people that trusted you?"

"My, you are a naïve worm. The world is not all black and white." He follows after Fayt. "Maybe some people don't deserve to be trusted. I am one of them." Fayt keeps backing up until Albel grabs his shoulder with one hand.

He shoves his clawed hand into Fayt's gut, and twists it for the most damage he could inflict. Fayt screamed, blood flowing from his mouth, while Albel laughed. He didn't remove his arm until Fayt was dead. Then he merely looked at the mess he made, and walked away.
