Neji stared at her tombstone in the rain, seeing the name etched in the rock. Tenten. He closed his eyes and remembered.

Flashback

After training one day, Tenten told Neji. "I love you."

"Hn," Was all he had to say. She walked away. He left in the opposite direction.. and every day after that moment, after training, Tenten said the same thing over and over. "I love you, Neji."

And he had the same response, He really did love her though. But due to his responsibility to his clan, he couldn't tell her. Love was a sign of weakness. It was his destiny. He could never change it. But he enjoyed spending time with her. Her smile sent a rush to his heart. And her eyes…they were pure beauty. But then…

He was mad. Hiashi had proclaimed that Neji would never be able to lead the Hyuga family. So, as dumb as he was, he took it out on those dearest to him. Or rather, the thing dearest to him. Which was her. Tenten. He nearly killed her while sparring and she hadn't said a word about it. But when she told him that she loved him again, he blew up.

"WHY DO YOU KEEP SAYING THAT? I DON'T LOVE YOU AND I NEVER WILL! YOU'RE JUST A MY SPARRING PARTNER. I'M ONLY HERE TO GET STRONGER DO YOU UNDERSTAND ME?" The second the words left his mouth, he regretted them. He opened his mouth to apologize, but she had already started to walk away. He didn't see the tears in her eyes. But the thing she said before she left broke his heart.

"I love you, Neji."

She died the next day. He never got to return her feelings. She planned on leaving Konoha forever after what he said. She was ambushed by several Sound Ninja. She didn't stand a chance. And he found her body. When Tenten didn't show up for training, he became worried. He went to her house. She was gone. Neji stepped outside the Konoha gates. Her body was right there. And he couldn't do a thing about it. Her favorite kunai had been used against her, where it lay stabbed into her heart. All he could do was stare…and cry.

Present

Tsunade had allowed Neji to keep her kunai. The weapon that killed her. He twisted it lovingly in his hands, knowing that his beloved Tenten had held it at some point. In her gravestone, he engraved the four words he couldn't tell her. "I love you, Tenten." He stepped back. And with the kunai that killed his Tenten, he killed himself, knowing that when he did, he could tell her those words in person.
