Virginia Weasley, more affectionately known as Ginny to..to, well, everyone, sat at the chess table intent on capturing her opponent's King. Her opponent was Harry Potter, her one-time infatuation and closest brother's best friend.

Ginny vaguely noted as Harry waved to someone while she studied the chessboard.

'Ha,' Ginny thought, figuring out exactly what piece to move and where to, just as a rather loud 'thump' sounded. She looked up quickly and saw Hermione Granger standing by the chair a sleeping Ron Weasley was occupying. Her arms were still stretched out, a few feet above her bag, that was on the floor.

Hermione gave a quick little nervous smile to Ginny and Harry, then refocused on Ron. Ginny glanced over to Harry, raising one eyebrow in question. Harry, who likewise looked over to Ginny for an explanation, shrugged. Ginny looked back just in time to see Hermione, who was leaning over Ron, poke him in the side.

Ron jerked awake and into a sitting position. "Wha?" He uttered loudly.

Hermione laughed and said something Ginny didn't catch. Then after a brief moment, Hermione leaned in closer to Ron. Ginny's eyes widened. 'Kiss him!'

But alas, she only asked him something else. Apparently a confusing one since after a pause Hermione looked slightly annoyed by Ron's lack of comprehension. She whispered something else, then a second later leaned in closer.

'Merlin, she's only -inches- from him! Kiss him, Hermione! Bloody kiss him already!'

As Ron grew more red by the second, Hermione asked another question. Ginny could lip-read it from across the room - "Why?"

'Why? Why what? ..Who cares why, just kiss him al-bloody-ready!' Ginny realized that watching, and with baited breath, too, this scene unfolding, however slowly, was worse than those years of waiting for Ron to make the first move.

Whatever Ron answered, it was much to Hermione's liking. Her face lit up like a Christmas tree, a huge grin illuminated her face. Then quite suddenly, she leaned forward, kissing him.

Ginny let out a squeal that sounded like "Aw!" while Harry, at the same time, made a sound somewhere between a squeak and a grunt, a rather interesting sound, if you think about it.

Ron, oblivious to anyone other than Hermione, wrapped his arms around her waist, bringing them closer. A moment later they both pulled away, but not very far.

Ginny grinned and averted her gaze from Hogwarts' most obvious couple of possibly ever back to the chessboard. Still grinning, she told her Queen where to move. She looked up to face Harry, who was trying to both watch the scene by the fireplace and the chess game. Trying to keep a straight face, Ginny said, "Checkmate."
