Never Give Up!

Summary – Believing Dean to be dead, why does Sam continue to fight?
He can still smell the burnt flesh; feel the stinging pain in the palm of his hand. His left leg throbs from the bullet wound that, as far as he can tell, is still bleeding. Despite all of this, his seemingly sluggish mind is as sharp as ever. This is how he almost escaped and the only reason he's able to move his battered body as much as he already has. It's also how he was so cleverly able to trick Toni into believing he had actually slit his own throat with that piece of broken mirror. Yet she has managed to once again lock him in his prison leaving him to sit on the stairs leading to his only means of freedom. Tired beyond belief, Sam allows his mind to wander.
He knows no one is coming for him. Dean is dead, blown apart by the soul bomb inside of his chest. All to save a world who would never know of his sacrifice. Castiel is missing, having been banished by Toni and sent who-knows-where. Leaning his head against the railing, he grunts in pain and grief. He and Castiel had only just returned when Toni made herself known and kidnapped him. It gave him no time to truly grieve Dean's death. To fulfill the last promise he made to him. He owes it to his brother and to himself, not to give up. To keep fighting until his body or mind caves in, whichever comes first.
Dean didn't lay down his life for Sam to give in so easily. Sam knows Dean would keep fighting and that's what he's going to do. He'll continue fighting, find a way out, and then carry out Dean's final wishes. After that, he'll probably hole up in the Men of Letters bunker and drink copious amounts of alcohol.
Ever so slowly, Sam manages to make his way back to the chair in the middle of the room. He doesn't know how long it's been since his fight with Toni and he doesn't care. He can still think and plan and plot. It's all a matter of time.
He can wait.
