Disclaimer: I don't own Monk. The only thing I own is the idea
"It happened so fast she really didn't have to- Monk you know you have to do it"
"What are you talking about," Monk said, "I just did"
Leland shook his head.
"You've been standing there with your mouth open for about ½ an hour"
"Oh… right yeah well… no I just did it"
Natalie shot a look to Leland.
"It could have happened to anyone," she said
"I understand it could have happened to anyone but it didn't happen to anyone. Now it's a shame it happened but what happened happened and what needs to happen needs to happen"
"Do you have to be such a guy!"
"Well I don't know all the biostatisticals of that but I think so," Leland teased trying to lighten the mood.
"You know what I mean. This is too much for him. Even just letting it happen would be too much for him"
"Natalie do you even hear yourself," Leland asked, "a man is dead!"
Natalie understood that perfectly well.
"One man being dead," she argued, "is better then two men begin dead which is what will happen if he loses her again"
Leland sighed deeply because he knew she was right.
"Maybe at least-"
"NOTHING NEGATIVE," Natalie said firmly
Leland tossed a glance at Monk. He had only seen Monk this nervous one other time. He had been talking with Trudy and attempting to be serious. He would have seceded at that too except that he was so nervous he misspoke his pronouns. Instead of saying "you" he said "I"
Everyone managed to keep a straight fact until he got to the end of the conversation. There he said, "I understand what you just said right?". At that point everyone, including Trudy cracked up. When Adrian realized what he had done he said, 'wait let me try this again"
"It's okay Monk," Leland said, "I think the point is moot by now"
Looking at Monk now he realized this was another time where the point was moot or rather mute. Monk looked like he forgot how to talk. His words or attempt at them were just a jumble of nonsense. It sounded something like this.
"You (jumble) something, something… I think… and (Jumble) will… something ugh"
"Monk," Leland said, "It's alright. I think the point is both moot and mute this time"
Natalie smiled at him gratefully.
"Thank you," she said
For Monk his world was straight again.
